Competitive indoor skydiving is real — and it's insane to watch

A video of an incredible competitive indoor skydiving performance by Leo Volkov is going viral after being posted to YouTube on January 24.

With over 100,000 views on the original YouTube clip (and plenty more versions and angles out there), the video was taken at the Wind Games 2016,  held at a wind tunnel in Castello D’Empuries in Spain.

The entire performance lasts over two minutes and illustrates the incredible control and moves that allow Volkov to float around the 14-foot wind tunnel, twisting and turning to the music with unbelievable precision. We first spotted it on Digg.

Volkov’s performance was a part of the freestyle moment in the competition, which he won. In the video, he literally danced on air:

And while competitive indoor skydiving or “Bodyflight” might seem too cool to be real, there is an entire sport dedicated to floating around in wind tunnels.

People can compete solo or in teams of 2, 3, or 4, and perform in a variety of formations. The athletes need to successfully complete a certain number of moves during their time period, whether it’s the way they grip their partners or how they land their maneuvers and flips.

Each performance is also recorded and judged by a panel of experts and some of the world-wide competitions are even featured on sports networks like ESPN.
