A robot developed by China's National Defense University is designed to aid in the country's anti-terrorism and anti-riot measures, China's People Daily reported.

Called the Anbot, the robot can patrol autonomously for eight hours. If people in proximity to the robot feel threatened, Anbot's control personnel can remotely deliver an electrical shock.

The Anbot also has an SOS button so people can use the robot to call the police.

The robot was introduced at the Chongqing international tech fair on April 20. Anbot is also capable of environmental monitoring and biochemical detection, according to the fair's webpage.

The robot is just under five feet tall and weighs 170 pounds. It's equipped with sensors, enabling it to navigate completely autonomously. Anbot is capable of moving at a top speed of 11 miles per hour.
