A new video from YouTubers Useful life hack zooms in on another perfectly-designed product: the humble binder clip.

The plastic black clip is so versatile, the video explains, it can be used to prop up your favorite mobile device, hang calendars on the wall, and extend the life of your toothpaste.

Here are our favorite alternative uses:

Razor head protector

Fortunately for clip lovers, most razors are almost exactly the same width as a large-size clip.

As the Useful life hack guys demonstrate, simply fasten the clip around the neck of the razor and fold the handles down so they rest on the handle.

Cable organizer

Avoid the dreaded experience of tangled cables (or worst, lost cables) by wrapping the cords in a bundle and securing them in the middle with a clip. The next time you need one, it'll be right where you left it.

Smartphone viewing stand

This hack requires two clips and a sheet of paper. First, you'll need to cut the paper so it's roughly the same length as your phone in landscape mode. Depending on your phone, you could also use a business card.

Next, attach a clip to each end of the paper so the corners of your phone have a place to rest. The handles of the clip should serve as tiny "feet" to keep the makeshift stand upright.

Chip clip

This one should probably go without saying, but it's a classic. If you're still using the big plastic chip clips you bought in a four-pack from Walmart, it might be time to upgrade to a sleeker alternative.

Binder clips make great chip clips because they offer a more tightly pinched seal and serve multiple purposes, unlike actual chip clips, which just take up space.

Toothpaste preserver

The tight pinch that saves potato chips also comes in handy when your toothpaste starts to run low.

Instead of manually sliding small globs of toothpaste from the bottom of the tube, slide all of it up in one swipe, roll up the unused tube portion, and clamp the sucker.

Calendar holder

If you're someone who likes to do things old-school and still uses a physical calendar, take a binder clip and attach it to the top of the calendar. Fasten a thumb

Next, fasten a thumb tack or nail into the wall and use the handles of the clip to hang the calendar on the thumb tack. As a bonus pro-tip, you can use the handy loop at the end of one of the handles to store a pen.
