One of the most frustrating experiences as a video game player is missing out on a great game because you own the wrong console.

PC owners can play most game titles, but that requires the energy and investment of keeping up with state-of-the-art system requirements. And some games still won't work on those systems. For most players, a console is the best bet.

Unless you want to invest in the struggling Wii U for access to the Nintendo universe, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are your only real options in this generation. Which one you buy has a lot to do with the systems themselves; controller preference is a huge deal. But even more important are which games you'll get to play. Here are the biggest titles available only on PlayStation consoles.

"Bloodborne"

The Best Original Game of 2015 at the Golden Joystick Awards takes players through a murky, grisly world of disease, monsters and combat. It's one of the best – and most difficult – games of the year, with an unnerving plot and intense fight scenes. And it's only available for PlayStation 4.

"Rocket League"

Psyonix dropped its genre-busting sports game "Rocket League" into the PlayStation store back in July (it also came out on PC). To put it mildly, we freaked out over this game in the Tech Insider newsroom, as did the rest of the internet. It's everything a creative sports game should be: imaginative, impossible in real life, and loads of fun. Sure, it comes out on Xbox One this February. But do you really want to wait a whole month to flying-headbutt a house-sized ball with a rocket-propelled truck?

This leaping, shooting and otherwise gallivanting series has only ever existed for PlayStation consoles. And this gorgeous 2015 remaster of the series' first three installments ("Uncharted: Drake's Fortune", "Uncharted 2: Among Thieves", and "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception") made worth playing all over again on – exclusively for PS4.

"LittleBigPlanet 3"

An antidote to all the gloomy video games out there, the third installment in the "LittleBigPlanet" franchise features adorable fluff creatures going on an adventure in puzzle solving, platform jumping, and creative widgetry. Like its predecessors, it's only available on Sony consoles.

Marvel may have splashed its universe all over TV, Netflix, and movie theaters, but DC Comics put its own universe up online to play in for free. This massively multiplayer online game only runs on PlayStation consoles and PCs so far – though it will get an Xbox One release later this year.

"MLB 15: The Show"

Baseball is big business, and so are baseball games. As in past years, 2015's "MLB 15: The Show" is a PlayStation exclusive. That means that since Major League Baseball's multiplatform "2K" series ended with "MLB 2K13", baseball fans who want to play their heroes can only do it on the Sony platform.

Another free-to-play MMO, "Planetside 2" pits factions of thousands players against one another in a fast-paced reimagining of the 2003 game "Planetside." The 2012 sequel made its console debut on PS4 in 2015.

"Until Dawn"

Supermassive Games

Supermassive Games, a studio known mostly for its work on "LittleBigPlanet," "Start the Party" and other family-friendly series, released this brutal, innovative horror game for PS4 in 2015. While Sony didn't promote it as much as some other titles, its slasher-flick cinematography and unusual play style make it one of the most interesting PS4 exclusives around. A sequel, "Until Dawn: Rush of Blood", will arrive on PS4 sometime in the future.
