You haven’t seen Australia until you’ve seen it from a drone's point of view

Drones have ushered in a whole new era of aerial photography.

Gabriel Scanu, a content curator based in Sydney, Australia, is just one of many experimenting with drone photography. His photos of Sydney and the nearby coastline are breathtaking to say the least.

Scanu takes photos of the local sites around Australia and when he vacations. This one was taken at Barrenjoey Headland — one of Sydney's northern beaches.

Scanu told Tech Insider he has always been interested in photography since his father is a cinematographer. "I was always surrounded by cameras and visual concepts, so for me photography was almost like a natural progression," he said.

"I first got into drone photography when my father bought a drone for his business," Scanu said. "We went to the snowy mountains in Australia to fly it for the first time."

Scanu said the biggest challenge with picking up drone photography is familiarizing yourself with the technology. "Apart from that I guess droning is fairly straightforward," he said.

"The closest thing I can compare [drone photography] to is like playing a video game with a controller, it almost doesn’t seem real," he said. "It's really that effortless, given the environment around you is safe and open."

Using his DJI Phantom 4 drone allows Scanu to take unique shots wherever he goes, like this one of Bronte Beach in Sydney.

"The only advice I would give to anyone looking at getting involved with droning would be to have fun and give it a go, but at the same time don’t compromise your safety or the safety of those around you," Scanu said.

"I think the thing I love about droning the most is the adrenaline and excitement I get from it each time I take off," he said. "It’s always a risk not knowing what could happen or if you’ll even get the drone back at the end of it all."
