The Apple Watch is getting a $50 price drop.
Now, rather than starting at $349 for the "sport" version of the Apple Watch, you can pick one up for $299. The standard, non-sport version of the Apple Watch still starts at $549, though we expect Apple will lower that price as well.
The Apple Watch, as you may already know, is a so-called "smart" watch from Apple that works in conjunction with your iPhone. It tells the time, it enables you to send messages (from a watch), and does loads of other stuff. It's like a smartphone for your wrist, albeit with slightly less functionality.
Monday's news of an Apple Watch price drop is great folks who are interested in picking up Apple's latest device, but also speaks volumes about Apple's ability to sell smart watches. Some folks have called it a "confused" product; former Tumblr CTO and tech industry gadfly Marco Arment said, "The Apple Watch is a confused product, designed like a tiny iPhone," Arment writes. "To be great, the Apple Watch needs to be rethought to do less, better."
If you were holding out on picking one up, now is clearly the time to do so.
