Apple just fixed one of the most annoying things about the Apple TV

One of the best features of the new Apple TV is how well it works with Siri.

You tap a button on the remote and utter a title, like "House of Cards," or even a command like "show me popular TV shows," and voilà: Whatever you searched for pops up on the screen.

Still, you couldn't use Siri for everything. You couldn't dictate to enter text, like usernames and passwords for apps and services. This means that when logging into an app like Netflix, HBO Now, Hulu, or any one of the 5,000 Apple TV apps available, you would have to go through the tedious (and difficult) process of selecting one letter, number, or symbol at a time.

An update in December let people to use the Remote app for iPhones and iPads to type, but dictation with Siri was still missing.

On Monday, Apple fixed that.

Tim Cook, the company's CEO, announced an update to Apple TV that supports voice-to-text dictation for any kind of input field, including usernames and passwords as well as searching for apps in the App Store.

The news was buried ahead of announcements about the new iPhone SE and iPad Pro, but when Tim Cook said that people would now be able to dictate usernames and passwords using Siri, it seemed like people in the small audience (Apple employees, VIPs, and journalists) cheered extra loudly.

"You're really gonna love it," Cook yelled over the crowd.

Voice-to-text dictation is just one feature of the new tvOS 9.2 update. You can learn about the other features here
