Sony's CFO Kenichiro Yoshida confirmed that his company is making dual-lens cameras for "major smartphone players" in 2016, according to Sony blog Xperiablog.net (via MacRumors).

Sony is one of the main manufacturers and suppliers of iPhone camera parts.

Sony's confirmation doesn't specifically say its dual lens cameras will be featured in the iPhone 7, but it's entirely possible that it's referring to the iPhone 7 considering Apple is a "major smartphone player" and Sony makes iPhone cameras for them.

This lines up well with rumors that Apple is reportedly testing a dual-lens camera for the iPhone 7 Plus.

A dual-lens camera could allow the iPhone to take better low-light shots, which is an area it lacks in compared to some Android phone cameras that perform well in low-light situations, like Google's Nexus 6P and Nexus 5X.

An earlier report from MacRumors also suggested that dual-lenses in addition to camera technology from LinX (a company specializing in small-form camera tech) could offer better digital zooming. LinX also claims its technology offers "DSLR" quality in small mobile cameras.

The HTC One M8 used a dual-lens camera that let you refocus on certain parts of your pictures after taking the picture.

It wouldn't be too surprising if Apple innovated the iPhone's camera, as it's one of the iPhone's key differentiators and one of the iPhone's biggest selling points. According to Charlie Rose in a "60 Minutes" interview, Apple employs 800 people to work on the iPhone's camera alone.
